Winter is a slow time of year for my garden.  I am still new to the whole gardening thing, and I haven’t yet mastered how to grow things during the cold months of the year.  Right now, the biggest gardening activity going on is happening in my head.  Visions of tomatoes and jalapeños are dancing in my head.  Is there anything more exciting than perusing through seed catalogs?  (Or maybe it’s just me…)  But when I look through the catalogs, and make lists of things to order, I can picture the beautiful seedling pushing up through the soil, and the taste of ripe tomatoes, still warm from the sun.

My favorite catalog is Seed Savers Exchange. They specialize in heirloom seeds.  You can purchase seeds (and even plants) from them, or join the organization and buy and trade heirloom seeds from other members.  I love the idea of growing heirloom varieties – they just taste better!
